A tummy tuck, abdominal lift or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the shape of your abdomen.

You can undergo an abdomen (tummy tuck) cosmetic surgery to:

  •       Removes excess skin and adipose tissue (fat), stretch marks following a pregnancy, or weight loss from the middle and lower abdomen.
  •       Tightens muscles of the abdominal wall.

An abdominoplasty or Tummy tuck is not a surgical procedure that treats obesity. If you intend to lose weight, you should postpone your abdominoplasty surgery until you have reached a stable weight. This can be achieved with either a healthy diet or exercise.

There are different techniques that plastic surgeons can use for an abdominoplasty.
Abdominoplasty (abdomen lift or tummy tuck) can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries such as liposuction, a breast augmentation or breast lift, or other facial surgeries.

Alternative treatments

One option would be not undergo an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck surgery. Liposuction can be an alternative option to treat excess fat.

You must have a good elasticity (tone) of the skin, fatty deposits in the abdomen, and also have a stable weight. A diet and exercise program may be beneficial in reducing excess body fat and improving your silhouette.
